Speaker's Corner

Throughout the year, these events involve talks by leading public figures on how issues of faith engage with the concerns of everyday life.

Past speakers have included the former head of the Army, General Sir Richard Dannett on the ethics of warfare, the Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe on faith in politics, Jonathan Aitken on modern day morality and the former Chief Constable of Surrey, Lynne Owens on morality in the police force.

These event needs to be booked.


Justyn Rees Larcombe - "Against the Odds - The Grip of Gambling on Great Britain"

Justyn Rees Larcombe is a public speaker, media commentator and advisor to the government, medical profession and leading national think tanks on the issues of gambling and addiction. He spoke from personal experience, having lost everything through online gambling and talked candidly about restoration through rediscovering his faith.

Jonathan Veira - "The man behind the music - A life of faith in the world of entertainment"

Revd Canon Andrew Wingfield Digby, was the first National Director of "Christians in Sport", a position he held until 2002 when he became the vicar of St Andrew's Church, Oxford. Andrew served as chaplain at the 1998, 2000 and 2013 Olympics and has also served as the spiritual adviser for the England Cricket team. Andrew gave a very entertaining talk on Christians in Sport, with a well focused message.

"Christianity in Politics – God and Mrs Thatcher"

Charles Moore, the official biographer of Margaret Thatcher and himself a Roman Catholic, spoke about how Christian beliefs impact the world of politics in his talk ‘Christianity and Politics – God and Mrs. Thatcher’ which is based on his book ‘Everything she wants’.
